The Moonshine Credence is the musical alias of Ottawa indie alternative folk singer-songwriter Adam Mathew Shilton.

While the moniker deliberately instills thoughts of the illicitly distilled high proof whiskey; the hidden meaning provides more insight into the man himself. Moonshine  translates to foolish talk or ideas whereas credence refers to belief or acceptance of something as true. This holds especially true for Adam as he continues to pursue his musical dreams and ambitions with the long held delusions of grandeur he's maintained since his youth that something great and purposeful lies within.

With The Moonshine Credence Adam blends Alternative, Folk, Americana and Rock and  Roll influences into a timeless sound that echoes the spirits of legends like John Prine, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. A bygone musical era where song was of utmost importance and recording was just the art of capturing a good performance. Through the excellent works of Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, Gregory Alan Isakov, John Moreland, The White Buffalo and many others we are experiencing a renaissance of singer-songwriters continuing in this tradition of musical storytelling.

Born in Winnipeg but raised in Ontario via Burlington then Ottawa his family seemed to be constantly uprooting which may have contributed to the restless rambler quality Adam carried into adulthood. Now rooted in the love of a good woman and a child he's settled and found home.

Armed with just an acoustic guitar Adam focuses on melody as his rhythmic playing provides a perfect companion to his passion, energy and vocal prowess. The song and his unique renditions become the focal point of his stripped down folk roots sound. Deep gravelly lows, passionate howls and a drawl reminiscent of a southern twang all combine  to create one of Ottawa's most unique voices.

Adam draws on his eclectic musical influences, life experiences and familial successes, hardships and tragedies to craft songs that are emotionally honest, heartfelt and relatable.

Be sure to check out this exciting and talented Ottawa artist at one of his shows and follow his musical endeavors by following him on Instagram or signing up for his mailing list. New original music is on the way and the songs being written are notable for their simplicity in a digital world. Captured using one mic in a room you feel as though you are in the room with him as he shares his fears, struggles and triumphs while telling stories through song.
